Vermont summer is a time for kids to play, explore, and engage with nature.  From digging in the soil to roaming the farm fields and forest to snacking on snap peas, VFFS summer camp gives kids a natural space to grow and learn.  

Based at Drift Farmstead, we cultivate creativity, wonder, and fun alongside the crops and animals.  See the session descriptions below for more details on each camp week.

Interested in learning more about old techniques of wood harvesting, carving, building and creating?! This camp week we will spend a lot of time with a guest local mentor who specializes in green wood carving. No experience necessary.

Farm Week –  Full Day 

June 21-25  

4-12 year-olds

What is life really like on a farm?  Come discover for yourself during Farm Week!  You’ll play, create, build, dig, harvest, munch and crunch on what the farm has to offer. The day is mixed, starting with a movement story, farm rotations, team games, forest playground time, crafts and forest romps.

 Farm & Survival Adventures – Full Day

June 28-July 2

4-12 year-olds 

How does the farm and forest weave together and form a sustainable unit? How are farm animals similar and different than wild life? How can we create balance between farm and forest?! Come find out during Farm & Survival Adventures week. 

Create your own shelters, build your own fires, and learn how to find your way out of the wilderness. Learn about the anatomy of farm animals and compare to wildlife. Campers will play games, learn whittling skills, explore the many habitats at Drift Farmstead, and have free play in the forest.

Habitat & Survival Adventures– Full Day

July 19-23 

4-12 year-olds 

Imagine if you lived in the woods. How would you stay warm and safe at night? What would you eat and drink?  What creatures would be in the forest with you? Come find out during Survival Adventures week.

Interesting World of Insects – Full Day

July 26-30 

4-11 year-olds 

Have you ever noticed how many bugs there are?  In this session, you’ll get to take a close look at the world of insects.  Where do they live? How many different species can we find? How are the many insects we find alike and different?

If monarchs are out and about, we’ll be part of a citizen science project with Monarch Watch by safely capturing and tagging monarch butterflies.  

You’ll also play games, explore the many habitats at Drift Farmstead, and have free play in the forest.

Survival Adventures II – Full Day

Aug 2-6

4-12 year-olds 

Dig deeper into what survival looks like on a farm and in the forest. Hone in on practicing already learned skills and learn new ones. Spoon making, bow drilling, trapping, farm work and more will be integral pieces to solve the survival puzzle. 

Days around the fire, movement games, longer hikes and more will leave campers wanting to learn more! It is not necessary to have joined the other survival camps as there will be a layer of experiences.
